Scholarship Criteria
Recipient(s) must be a rising Sophomore(s) or Junior(s) enrolled or admitted to the University with a declared major in a STEM discipline.
​
The scholarship shall be awarded to male or female student(s) with a demonstrated financial need.
​
Recipient(s) must have and maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (GPA).
​
Recipient(s) must demonstrate participation and leadership in STEM co-curricular activities.
​
The scholarship is renewable depending on satisfactory academic progress towards a degree.

Why I Give

Bernard Smith Jr has established this scholarship to aid students in their pursuit of a college education. As a first-generation student, Bernard had trouble paying for each academic school year. Through years of experience at Johnson C. Smith University, he was able to grow into the man that he is today.

Bernard understands that the value of education is the promise of freedom and personal fulfillment. For a large number of JCSU students, a college degree provides a viable route out of poverty. Bernard's hope is that this scholarship will impact students and help make their experiences at Johnson C. Smith University better.
